Every formation in Companions takes one beast. It isn't a sixth hero: it roams the battlefield with its own skills, fires an opening effect at the start of each fight, and from Legendary tier up it carries talents that raise the stats of every hero in the formation (or of one faction). Beasts unlock with the Beast Grounds after Campaign stage 2-8, and you get them by capturing with Capture Permits.
A beast's stats only feed its own skills, and they come from its tier and your Resonating Crystal level, plus the Beast Encyclopedia bonus that every beast shares. For one particular beast, raising its tier is the upgrade that matters, and the jump is large: the attribute multiplier goes from 0.15 at Rare to 2.06 at Ascended, and a Fabled beast reaches 3.06 at Ascended 5 stars.
Beasts fight in the Campaign, Forked Fate, King's Tower and the faction towers, Arena of Heroes, Dream Realms, Guild Hunting, the Vault of Time and Temporal Rift.

Capturing beasts
Each capture costs one Capture Permit, and a 5x capture costs five. Capture Permits come from the Store and Weekly Quests. A capture attempt shows three habitats with beasts in them; you pick a habitat and get one of its beasts at random. Three habitats are open from the start and two open with Campaign progress, and a few beasts only join a habitat's pool later:
| Habitat | Opens | Beasts |
|---|---|---|
| Streamwood | Start | Grassy Orb, Tufty Ears, Bellbellow |
| Miasma Forest | Start | Grassy Orb, Spirit Orb, Shroom Spooder, Feline Vesperio (after 6-40) |
| Windfall Wasteland | Start | Dinocera Orb, Fire Breather, Spirit Orb, Blade Ridge (after 8-40) |
| Relic Prairie | Clear 4-36 | Tufty Ears, Dinocera Orb, Flutterplume Owl |
| Frostpeak Tundra | Clear 9-40 | Tufty Ears, Ice Crown |
Within a habitat every beast carries the same search weight, so picking a habitat is how you aim for a specific beast: Frostpeak Tundra is the only place Ice Crown appears, and Relic Prairie the only place for Flutterplume Owl.
The tier of a captured beast depends on your Capture Proficiency, which rises with total captures:
| Proficiency level | Total captures | Rare | Elite | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | 95% | 5% | 0% |
| 2 | 30 | 90% | 10% | 0% |
| 3 | 100 | 88.5% | 10% | 1.5% |
| 4 | 300 | 88% | 10% | 2% |
| 5 | 500 | 88% | 9% | 3% |
Captures can't roll Mythic or Ascended. Those tiers only come from ascending.
The beasts and what they do
Ordinary beasts share a skill layout. Battle Instincts is a periodic attack or effect, Fierce Strike unlocks at Elite and gets stronger at Legendary, and the opening skill fires once at the start of battle. At Mythic the opening skill gains an extra effect that only applies to heroes of the beast's faction, which makes matching the beast to your team's main faction worth more than it looks.
| Beast | Faction bonus at Mythic | Opening skill | Fierce Strike |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tufty Ears | Lightbearer | Shield on all allies worth 300% of its ATK for 6s | Heals the 1 (later 2) lowest-health allies |
| Flutterplume Owl | Lightbearer | +20 Haste to all allies for 8s; Mythic adds 150 Energy to Lightbearers | Time zone: allies inside gain Haste, enemies lose it |
| Grassy Orb | Wilder | All allies take 30% less damage for 5s | +20% (later 30%) ATK to the 2 farthest allies |
| Bellbellow | Wilder | All allies take 30% less damage for 10s; Mythic makes Wilders immune to the next control effect | Healing flowers where allies are grouped |
| Dinocera Orb | Mauler | +20% damage to enemies under 50% health for 10s (40% for Maulers at Mythic) | Life Leech on your top damage dealer |
| Blade Ridge | Mauler | Allies under 50% health take 40% less damage for 6s; Mythic adds +35% ATK for Maulers | Three hits that cut Defense by 25% (later 35%) |
| Fire Breather | Mauler | Allies on the enemy side deal 20% more and take 20% less damage for 15s | Shield and +20% ATK on your front hero |
| Spirit Orb | Graveborn | Allies' normal attacks drain 30 Energy (60 for Graveborn at Mythic), twice | Terrifies the closest enemy |
| Feline Vesperio | Graveborn | Shield on all allies worth 220% of its ATK that explodes when it ends | Darkfire Ball that hits a new enemy every second |
| Shroom Spooder | Graveborn | Mushrooms near your backline taunt approaching enemies, then cut their damage by 30% | Mist that also blocks enemy healing |
| Ice Crown | Celestial and Hypogean | +20 Crit Rating for 10s; Mythic makes their crits freeze enemies | Icicles on all enemies |
Fabled beasts are a separate class with four skills each, and those skills keep improving through five stars past Ascended:
| Fabled beast | What it does |
|---|---|
| Celestwing | Strips enemy Crit Block Rate and Crit Damage Resistance, plus a vortex that pulls enemies together |
| Nightfall Pegasus | Melancholy stacks (each makes the enemy take 5% more and deal 5% less damage, up to 5), and cuts the damage the 2 lowest-health allies take by 30% |
| Count Snickerfang | Exploding Carrot Pits and random crowd control (Stun, Charm, Entangle, Heal Prevention, Silence) on grouped enemies; at 3 stars, a 40% Defense cut |
| Twinlum Spirit | Nebulas that heal allies or curse enemies, and an Attack Rating aura; extra bonuses for heroes with summons |
| Blazefang | Lets your highest-Attack hero's crit damage exceed the normal cap, with extra power against enraged bosses |
Ascending beasts
Ascending a beast uses copies of the same beast at the same tier. The numbers below include the beast you're ascending:
| Ascension | Ordinary beast | Fabled beast |
|---|---|---|
| Rare to Elite | 4 copies | Starts at Elite |
| Elite to Legendary | 3 copies | 3 copies |
| Legendary to Mythic | 3 copies | 3 copies |
| Mythic to Ascended | 3 copies | 2 copies |
| Each star, Ascended to 5 stars | Not possible | 1 Mythic copy of itself and 1 Ascended beast of another kind |
Built from Rare captures, one Ascended ordinary beast is 108 Rare copies (4 × 3 × 3 × 3), which is why the 1.5% to 3% Legendary rolls at higher proficiency matter. A Fabled beast needs 18 Elite copies to reach Ascended and 63 for 5 stars, plus five Ascended beasts of other kinds as fodder. After you've ascended 10 times, Ascend All handles every eligible beast in one tap.
Talents
Talents are what make a beast useful beyond its own skills. Each talent raises one stat for the whole formation, or for one faction. Ordinary beasts get them at Legendary:
| Beast tier | Talents | Talent tiers rolled | Possible talents |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legendary | 2 | Legendary or Mythic | ATK, DEF or HP for all heroes |
| Mythic | 3 | Mythic or Ascended | All-hero and faction-only versions of ATK, DEF, HP and two secondary stats |
| Ascended | 4, up to 8 through combining | Ascended | Same pool as Mythic |
The secondary stats depend on the beast. Tufty Ears, Grassy Orb, Dinocera Orb and Spirit Orb roll Magic Resist and Physical Resist. Flutterplume Owl, Bellbellow, Blade Ridge, Feline Vesperio and Ice Crown roll Physical and Magic Pierce. Fire Breather and Shroom Spooder roll Crit Rating and Life Leech. The faction-only talents always target the beast's own faction (Celestials and Hypogeans for Ice Crown), and on Mythic and Ascended beasts a third of the roll weight goes to them.
A faction talent is worth 1.5 times the all-hero version but only covers that faction. At Ascended talent tier:
| Talent | All heroes | One faction only |
|---|---|---|
| ATK | +8% | +12% |
| DEF | +32.56% | +48.84% |
| HP | +12.1% | +18.15% |
| Magic or Physical Resist | +8.1 | +12.15 |
| Physical or Magic Pierce | +4.9 | +7.35 |
| Crit Rating | +8 | +12 |
| Life Leech | +8 | +12 |
Because of that 1.5 multiplier, the faction talent adds more in total once four of your five heroes share the beast's faction. With three or fewer, the all-hero version wins.
Combining beasts
Combining takes two Ascended beasts and creates a third. You then keep one of the three (either material or the new beast) and the other two are retired; each combine pays 35 Beast Tokens for the Beast Store. The new beast's kind is picked at random from the two materials' kinds, it is always Ascended, and its talent count follows the materials' talents. Fabled beasts can't be combined.
The point of combining is the talent count: an Ascended beast starts with 4 talents and combining can carry it up to 8.
Fabled beast talents
Fabled beasts don't roll talents. Each has a fixed list that grows with its tier (1 talent at Mythic, 2 at Ascended, then 3, 4, 5 and 6 through the first four stars, and 8 at 5 stars), and every talent starts at Rare tier. You raise them one talent tier at a time with Capture Permits or Spirit Dew; if you're short, diamonds fill the gap.
| Talent slot | Each of the first two steps (to Elite, to Legendary) | Each of the last two steps (to Mythic, to Ascended) | Total Capture Permits, Rare to Ascended |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 and 2 | 20 Capture Permits or 40 Spirit Dew | 40 Capture Permits or 80 Spirit Dew | 120 |
| 3 and 4 | 40 Capture Permits or 80 Spirit Dew | 80 Capture Permits or 160 Spirit Dew | 240 |
| 5 and 6 | 60 Capture Permits or 120 Spirit Dew | 120 Capture Permits or 240 Spirit Dew | 360 |
| 7 and 8 | 80 Capture Permits or 160 Spirit Dew | 160 Capture Permits or 320 Spirit Dew | 480 |
Taking all eight talents of a 5-star Fabled beast to Ascended tier costs 2,400 Capture Permits or 4,800 Spirit Dew. Every Fabled beast's list is built from all-hero talents, with Crit Damage Amplification, Physical Pierce or Magic Pierce as its first one.
Beast Wish
Beast Wish is the Fabled beast summon. You spend Wish Leaves on single or 5x wishes, and the Fabled beast in the pool is whichever one you set as your Wish Beast. Wish Leaves come from Temporal Rift point rewards and from bundles.
| Prize | Rate |
|---|---|
| Your Wish Beast (Fabled) | 3.30% |
| Elite beast | 3.50% |
| Rare beast | 15.00% |
| Spirit Dew x5 | 5.00% |
| Spirit Dew x3 | 10.00% |
| Spirit Dew x1 | 20.00% |
| Primordial Emblem | 10.00% |
| Amplifying Emblem | 5.00% |
| Common Enhancement Token x80 | 12.00% |
| Large Hero's Essence Chest | 16.19% |
| 30,000 diamonds | 0.01% |
At 3.30%, a wish averages about 30 Wish Leaves per Fabled copy, and a Fabled beast needs 3 copies just to reach Legendary.
Beast Encyclopedia
The Beast Encyclopedia levels up as you complete its quests and raises the stats of every beast you own. At its cap, level 35 (248,200 EXP), it adds 70% health, 48% Attack Rating and 129.5% Defense Rating to all beasts. Because it applies to the whole collection, it's the one beast upgrade that never goes to waste when you switch beasts between modes.
